As New York reflects on America's past 250 years, the New York State Library is celebrating not only the history that shaped our nation, but the spirit of service and civic participation that continues to strengthen our communities today. Through its inaugural Be Good, Do Good Volunteer Fair on October 18, 2026, at the New York State Museum, the New York State Library will bring together New Yorkers looking to make a difference with more than 20 Capital Region cultural organizations seeking volunteers to contribute their time, talents, and experience.
NY250 Be Good, Do Good Volunteer Fair
Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet with more than twenty cultural organizations to find a place that aligns with their interests and talents. Groups in attendance include the New York State Museum, the Museum Association of New York (MANY), Thomas Cole National Historic Site, the Underground Railroad Education Center, and WAMC Northeast Public Radio.
New York State Librarian Lauren Moore said, "The historical and cultural institutions of the Capital Region play a critical role in preserving our shared history, enriching our communities, and creating opportunities for New Yorkers to learn and connect, but they can't do it alone. The New York State Library is thrilled to bring together people who want to make a difference with organizations that can put their time, talents, and enthusiasm to work. A strong state depends on people who are engaged in their communities, and Be Good, Do Good is about making that engagement easier."
In support of NY250's call to inspire active citizenship, volunteerism, and civic engagement, the State Library has partnered with the Suffolk Cooperative Library System's statewide Great Give Back initiative to encourage libraries in every region to connect their communities with meaningful volunteer opportunities in support of America Gives. More than 275 public libraries are expected to be part of The Great Give Back this year, with the Be Good, Do Good Volunteer Fair serving as part of the State Library's own commitment to support community engagement.
More information about the Be Good, Do Good Volunteer Fair can be found on the New York State Library's website.
