HB Construction gifts SoE $350k to support excellence in construction programs

HB Construction is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a gift to The University of New Mexico School of Engineering.

The HB Construction Endowed Faculty Fellowship will allow the Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) to recruit and retain talented educators and researchers.

"The fellowship will allow us to continue making strides in fulfilling the workforce needs of the New Mexico construction industry," said Donna Riley, Jim and Ellen King Dean of Engineering and Computing. "Attracting and retaining top faculty is a critical part of that mission, and offering named fellowships like this one gives our School a competitive edge in hiring."

The $350,000 endowment will support excellence in the School's construction programs. The CCEE chair will appoint a faculty member to hold the fellowship for a three-year term. Endowment distributions may be used for conference expenses, lab or classroom equipment or graduate assistants, among other things in line with the purpose of the endowment.

"I see this faculty fellowship as an opportunity to invest in our construction programs by providing our faculty with the resources to bring new and innovative learning opportunities into the classroom," said Susan Bogus Halter, chair of CCEE.

HB Construction celebrated its anniversary and announced the gift to UNM at an event held Thursday, June 18.
