The campaign is part of the University of Barcelona's long-standing commitment to defending the universal values of human rights, peace and democracy. In this regard, the rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia, highlighted the UB community's commitment to human rights as "one of the greatest treasures we have as a university, not only because of what it says about us as individuals and as an institution, but also because of our ability to translate it into specific actions such as this fundraising campaign, which is so important for thousands of people in Gaza."
Donations can be made until January
The donation page is now operational, and with a single click, you can contribute directly to the essential services that UNRWA provides in Gaza. More than 12,000 agency professionals work in Gaza every day in extreme conditions to ensure education, healthcare, psychosocial support, drinking water and emergency accommodation. Every contribution can make a real difference on the ground and help thousands of families.
UNRWA is the United Nations agency for the Palestinian refugee population. It provides education, healthcare, protection and humanitarian assistance programmes in 58 camps in Gaza, the West Bank - including East Jerusalem - Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. UNRWA is committed to supporting nearly six million Palestine refugees. In addition, since October 2023, UNRWA has been serving the entire population of Gaza. UNRWA is the only organization working with and for Palestinians. It has 30,000 employees, 99% of whom are Palestine refugees.
Faculty 18 is a pioneering tool in the university sector that establishes a firm link between the UB and public universities in Gaza, as well as with other Palestinian higher education institutions. Fundraising for UNRWA Spain is fully in line with this framework and reinforces the UB's institutional commitment to the affected university communities and to the humanitarian organizations working on the ground.
