FEMA Administrator Visits Disaster-Damaged Communities in Indiana, Highlights State-Led Recovery Efforts

WASHINGTON -- Yesterday, FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton visited disaster-damaged communities from the severe storms and flooding in Indiana alongside Governor Mike Braun, state emergency management officials and impacted local leaders to advance President Trump's and Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin's commitment to faster, more accountable and state-led disaster recovery.

During the visit, Administrator Hamilton surveyed areas that were affected by the floods and storms, including the Mettel Field debris collection site and a damaged bridge in Carmel. The visit underscored the importance of state and locally led recovery efforts and FEMA's role in supporting the state.

"President Trump and Secretary Mullin have been clear: disaster recovery should be fast, efficient and led by the states and communities closest to the disaster. We want to remove the federal government from being a limiting factor, and we want to ensure states receive funding quickly so that recovery efforts can improve," said FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton. "Speeding up the entire process and ensuring communities recover fast is critical because that will drive the economic interests of these communities, while helping them be more resilient than before."

FEMA remains committed to removing roadblocks, cutting red tape and eliminating bureaucratic processes that slow down recovery. FEMA will continue to collaborate with the state to identify opportunities to enhance state-led recovery efforts and offer ways to accelerate programmatic requirements while upholding strict accountability and oversight measures to protect taxpayer dollars.
