We Want You to Know...

  • We are seeking suggestions to permanently name three important park properties as they progress forward: "The Olympia Armory," "Yelm Highway Community Park" and "Kaiser Woods Park." The deadline to submit suggested names is September 27. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) will host a public hearing at 6 p.m. on October 17 to review and gather public comment on suggested names. More information, including how to submit name suggestions, can be found here.
  • Join us for Lula Fest on Saturday, 9/28, from 3:00-9:00 PM at Isthmus Park to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Enjoy live music, vendors, food trucks, custom cars, and more. This family-friendly event is free. Ride fare-free Intercity Transit and use their trip planner to find a route to downtown Olympia, or walk, bike, or roll in. Bike racks are available downtown, and secure bike lockers are at the Olympia Transit Center (BYO lock). For details, visit the Lula Fest Facebook event page.
  • Join us for one of our upcoming volunteer opportunities!
    • The City of Olympia Park Stewardship Program is celebrating public lands! This fun and exciting stewardship work party on September 28 for National Public Lands Day connects our communities through volunteerism. Squaxin Park needs your help with environmental restoration! Join us as we remove English ivy and Himalayan blackberry from overtaking the beautiful trails. Tools, gloves, and light refreshments will be provided.
    • Exciting volunteer opportunities are available with our cultural events program-a great way to connect, engage, and build your skills! Upcoming events include Lula Fest on September 28 and the Indigenous Peoples' Day Celebration on October 14. Interested in getting involved? Contact Olivia Salazar de Breaux at [email protected] or 360.753.8343.
    • Volunteers are invited to be a part of the solution for our endangered Southern Resident orca whales on Orca Recovery Day on October 19. During this restoration event, we will work together to restore forested habitats to their intended state by removing non-indigenous vegetation and planting Pacific Northwest trees and shrubs. The day will also include a guided shore walk, refreshments, and a chance to learn about other organizations helping to better our orcas!
  • Need a place to host your next meeting, class or event? The Olympia Center, Harbor House, and Park Shelters are here to meet your needs. Give us a call at 360.753.8380 for more information.
  • Save the date for Fall Arts Walk on October 4-5, featuring this year's cover artist, Eileen Bochsler! Join us Friday, October 4, from 6-10 PM and Saturday, October 5, from 12-6 PM for a vibrant two-day celebration of community, culture, and the arts. Over 100 local businesses will host artists, makers, and performers, transforming downtown Olympia into a creative hub filled with exhibits, events, and interactive activities!
  • The Yauger Park paving project is underway, improving access with a new sidewalk around the Alta Street parking lot and paths connecting the southern lot to the ballfields and playground. The Alta Street lot is temporarily closed but will open for special events like Master Gardener Foundation plant sales-please obey all "No Parking" signs. The glass recycling container has been removed and will return after the project, which is expected to finish by mid-October. Alternate drop-off locations can be found here. Portions of the park are closed during construction for safety. Questions? Contact Diane Utter at [email protected] or 360.753.8282.
  • Construction is progressing at Grass Lake Nature Park. The trail alignment has been cleared, and the contractor is starting to bring in base rock for the paved trail. The boardwalk foundation is underway, with completion expected soon. Grading of the mitigation area is nearly finished, and the landscaper will soon begin planting over 5,000 plants in the mitigation areas.
