The 2026 spring sitting of the Yukon Legislative Assembly concluded on May 11.
The new government's first full sitting was characterized by collaboration and efficiency, with Members of the Legislative Assembly unanimously passing an unprecedented 28 motions, including private member, government and opposition motions. This demonstrates the Assembly's shared dedication to thoughtful, robust debate and serving, representing and advocating for the interests of all Yukoners.
Notably, every Vote was presented to the house for full debate of the $2.46 billion 2026-27 budget for the first time since the introduction of the 'guillotine clause,' which forces a vote on all remaining draft laws at the end of a sitting regardless of whether they were debated.
Budget 2026 reflects the Government of Yukon's commitment to restoring fiscal responsibility, living within its means and setting a clear path to balance. Key investments were made in the Yukon's core priorities, with disciplined spending increases in health, education, public safety and energy affordability.
This was a productive sitting that showed what is possible when Members focus on practical solutions. Our government advanced key commitments to Yukoners, including important investments in health care, education and public safety. At the same time, we took steps to bring spending under control and improve how government operates. Working collaboratively across the Legislative Assembly, we demonstrated our commitment to governing efficiently, transparently, and in the best interest of Yukoners. I thank all Members for their efforts to make the Yukon a better place.
Premier Currie Dixon
