The season of giving has arrived and serves as a reminder that anyone can make a difference in the life of a veteran simply by volunteering to spend time with him or her - or by donating needed items to either of the Ohio Veterans Homes (OVH).
Located in both Sandusky and Georgetown, the Homes provide comfort and care to hundreds of wartime veterans and help fulfill the lives of former service members in a variety of ways. However, there always is need for essential items such as clothing and toiletries as well as snacks, games, and personal supplies.
The Volunteer Services Coordinators at OVH-Georgetown and OVH-Sandusky have released an updated Suggested Donation List filled with preferred items and all Ohioans are welcome and encouraged to participate in the process.
You can learn more about volunteer opportunities at the Ohio Veterans Homes and view our Volunteer Services video at OhioVets.gov.
Similarly, our partners at the Ohio Department of Administrative Services announced recently that they will be including the delivery of items to both Ohio Veterans Homes this month as part of their Holiday Service Initiative to "make the holiday season a little brighter for those who served." DAS will complete its donation drive in Columbus on Dec. 19 and plans to make deliveries to both OVH facilities on Dec. 22.
Thank you for showing your gratitude and generosity to our beloved veterans.
Happy Holidays from ODVS to all Ohio veterans, their families, those currently serving, and all who support our military members past and present.
Please Note: We are not accepting used clothing (including socks), blankets, hand sanitizer, puzzles, or books at this time. Items in bold red are most needed.
