Pickleball court approved for new Senior Enrichment Center

NEWTON COUNTY, GA - The future Newton County Senior Enrichment Center, located at Denny Dobbs Park, will feature an outdoor pickleball court following a unanimous vote by the Board of Commissioners Tuesday, June 17.

The Board of Commissioners (BOC) accepted $32,473 donated from the non-profit Newton County Senior Services, Inc. to fund the amenity.

Anticipated to open in the fall of 2025, The Newton County Senior Enrichment Center located on Richards Chapel Road just off Hwy 212, is a 2023 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax project.

Pickleball, a popular activity for Newton County Seniors and, is played in the Turner Lake gymnasium Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to noon, Wednesday 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Approximately 60 seniors play at Turner Lake Park, including 38 members of the Newton County Senior Services.

"Our seniors have a blast playing pickleball," said Newton County Senior Services Director Freda Reed. "Pickleball is a fun and beneficial activity to keep their bodies toned and their minds sharp. It also allows seniors to build social relationships in a positive, competitive activity."
