Washburn invests in Shawnee County students with lower CEP tuition

Topeka, Kan. - Getting a jump start on college is now more affordable at Washburn. Continuing its longstanding commitment to the Shawnee County community, Washburn is lowering tuition for its Concurrent Enrollment Partnership (CEP). Beginning this fall, Shawnee County high school students enrolled in the dual-credit program will pay less for college courses while building a strong foundation for future academic success.

Washburn's CEP allows students to begin their college education without leaving their high schools. Taught in person by highly qualified instructors, the general education courses provide a true college-level learning experience at a reduced cost, with credits that transfer to all Kansas public colleges and universities.

"As our community's higher education partner, Washburn is dedicated to helping local students build a strong foundation for the future through CEP, a partnership that has served our schools and families for more than 15 years," said Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek, president of Washburn University. "This fall, we are making that opportunity more affordable while continuing to deliver the personalized, academic excellence students and families expect from Washburn."

Traditionally, tuition for Washburn's CEP courses has been offered at half the cost of undergraduate tuition. Now, that rate is being cut an additional 30% from $183 to $125 per credit hour with further reductions expected in the next several years.

"Washburn offers high-quality courses taught by experienced high school instructors and supported by Washburn faculty oversight, providing students a true college experience while they are still in high school," said Dr. Zach Frank, acting provost and vice president for academic affairs, Washburn University. "Maintaining affordable access to education is a cornerstone of Washburn's mission, and this investment helps more students take advantage of that opportunity."

CEP enrollment for Shawnee County high school students begins in August. Learn more about the opportunities at washburn.edu/CEP or call (785) 670.1820.
