WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29) released the following statement after House Republicans voted to advance Senate Republicans' Budget Resolution, the Senate Amendment to H.Con.Res. 14.
"Donald Trump is crashing the economy, Americans in all corners of the country are feeling the pain and Republicans are doing nothing to help them," said Congresswoman Rivas. "The bills Republicans continue to bring to the floor do nothing to address the major problems working families are facing today, and their budget proposal is no exception. I voted against the Republicans' extreme budget proposal because it will strip programs like Medicaid and Social Security, raise costs of living, and harm working families in CA-29 in order to support more tax breaks for billionaires. As Donald Trump continues to drive this country toward a recession, House Democrats and I are standing with Americans and working on solutions that will actually improve the lives of working families."
Background
The Senate Amendment to H.Con.Res. 14, includes nearly $880 billion in cuts that will slash access to Medicaid and $230 billion in cuts that will threaten access to SNAP.
In CA-29, this Republican budget resolution would threaten Medicaid for more than 371,000 people, including more than 133,000 children and 45,000 seniors. Under this resolution, the average premium for CA-29 residents would increase by an average of $2,440 per year.
The Senate Amendment to H.Con.Res. 14 passed in the House 216-214 with Congresswoman Rivas voting against this resolution. She previously voted against H.Con.Res. 14 on February 25, 2025.
