Mayor Spencer Announces Community Members Joining Tornado Recovery Advisory Committee

Today, Mayor Cara Spencer announced the names of 15 community members who will join the Tornado Recovery Advisory Committee to help ensure that the direction set for the City's tornado recovery efforts is shaped by the community.

The resident advisors selected from an applicant pool of 82 are:

  • Victor Addison, a current resident of Old North who grew up in the impacted neighborhoods and is a business owner in the construction industry
  • Joe Bingham, a pastor of a church in The Ville
  • Nashad Carrington, a resident of the Central West End and business owner in Lewis Place
  • Danni Eickenhorst, owner of two businesses in the Delmar Maker District.
  • Shellie Johnson, an active leader and volunteer for tornado relief and former resident of Penrose and Fairground
  • Ajia Knight-Brooks, a resident of the O'Fallon neighborhood
  • Aminhan Lobster, an employee of Park Central Development and volunteer for recovery
  • Vontriece McDowell, a resident of Lewis Place and employee of the St. Louis Housing Authority

The committee members were chosen to represent a wide range of impacted neighborhoods and experiences, as well as impacted businesses and representatives from organizations helping residents recover. Additional members may be added.

"I am grateful that so many people whose lives have been touched by this disaster have volunteered to help the City shape our recovery efforts," said Mayor Spencer. "Since the moment the tornado hit, community members have taken a leading role in the response and recovery. Through this committee, residents now have a formal and continuing role in shaping how the City responds in ways that align with the community's needs and wishes."

Instead of serving on the Resident and Community Recovery Advisory Committee, which was originally intended to operate alongside, but separately from, the Civic Leaders Advisory Committee announced in August, the two advisory committees will be combined into the Tornado Recovery Advisory Committee.

The committee will meet on Saturday, Nov. 15, to plan its path forward. More information about the Saturday meeting can be found here.

"Community members have been at the heart of the response and will continue to be central to the recovery. We look forward to the perspectives these members will bring to the committee," said Chief Recovery Officer Julian Nicks.

In addition, the City has selected members of the newly formed Neighborhood Planning Committees for the following planning areas within the tornado impact zone:

  • Plan Area 4 - West Cluster: Wells-Goodfellow, Hamilton Heights, Kingsway West.
  • Plan Area 4 - Central Cluster: O'Fallon and Penrose.
  • Plan Area 4 - East Cluster: College Hill and Fairground Neighborhood.
  • Plan Area 5: Academy, Fountain Park, and Lewis Place.

These committees will be focused on their specific neighborhoods and work in coordination with the Tornado Recovery Advisory Committee throughout the recovery process to craft a vision for thriving neighborhoods.
