Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center named to Becker’s 100 great hospitals in America 2026 list

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), Dartmouth Health's flagship hospital and New Hampshire's only Level 1 trauma center and academic medical center, has been named to Becker's Hospital Review's 2026 list of 100 great hospitals in America. Becker's annual list recognizes hospitals that demonstrate excellence across patient care, safety, innovation, and healthcare delivery.

In its 2026 list, Becker's highlights DHMC's leadership in rural healthcare, including its Center for Rural Health Care Delivery Science, which supports early-career researchers focused on rural health disparities, as well as several distinctions and innovations that support patients across the region. DHMC is consistently ranked New Hampshire's No. 1 hospital by U.S. News & World Report and is home to the state's only Level 1 adult and Level 2 pediatric trauma center, children's hospital, and National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. It is also the only federally designated Level 2 special pathogen treatment center in northern New England. The list also recognizes innovations including Dartmouth Health's partnership with New Hampshire Legal Assistance, DHMC's sustainable prescription bottles and the North Country Maternity Network, which was created to address gaps in rural maternity care.

"Recognition like this reflects the work our teams do every day to provide exceptional care while advancing medicine in a rural setting," said DHMC COO Tom Manion, MPA. "At DHMC, we take seriously our responsibility to serve the region while also helping address the broader challenges facing rural healthcare. Our clinicians, researchers, and staff continue to find new ways to improve care, expand access, and make a difference for patients and communities across northern New England."
