The Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) has submitted feedback to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Office of Space Commerce on the European Union Space Act (EUSA), warning that the proposal unfairly targets U.S. satellite operators and risks slowing innovation, deployment, and investment in next-generation space technologies. In its letter, SIIA emphasizes that the EUSA imposes vague and burdensome requirements that would disadvantage American companies while giving China opportunities to expand its influence in the European market.
The letter details how the Act discriminates against large low-earth orbit constellations, fails to recognize best practices already observed by U.S. operators, and creates regulatory uncertainty that could harm both American competitiveness and European progress. SIIA urges policymakers to push back against provisions that undermine innovation, security, and fair competition in the space sector.
