When you talk to alumni of MDI Biological Laboratory's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program, a common theme quickly emerges: the experience is transformative.

For David Tettey Tawiah, one recent SURF alum, it sparked not just a passion for biomedical science, but a lasting commitment to supporting the next generation of researchers. Now a proud member of our Catalysts Circle, this former student has chosen to give back through a monthly gift - a small but powerful gesture with big impact.

As a beneficiary of MDI Biological Laboratory's phenomenal facilities and mentorship through the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) program, I can attest first-hand to the impact its educational programs have on participating students.

I'm very saddened by the effects of recent federal funding cuts, but MDI Bio Lab's resolute response gives me hope. Indeed, I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute in my own small way to sustaining the SURF program for the next generation of biomedical scientists."

At MDI Bio Lab, we were determined not to let that happen. Thanks to our community, and monthly supporters like David, who stepped up to fill the gap - it didn't. We welcomed our cohort of 23 undergraduate students to campus the last week of May.
