Sen. Ossoff Delivering Federal Resources to Prevent Fentanyl Trafficking

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering Federal resources to help prevent fentanyl trafficking and protect Georgia families.

Sen. Ossoff worked with Republicans and Democrats to deliver Federal resources to combat fentanyl trafficking and protect Georgia families from these dangerous drugs.

The bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on February 3 includes $150 million to counter the flow of fentanyl, fentanyl precursors, and other synthetic drugs into the United States.

The funding will support law enforcement efforts to dismantle transnational criminal organizations involved in the production and trafficking of fentanyl, improve supply chain oversight, and promote engagement to address the public health and security threats posed by fentanyl.

"Illegal fentanyl trafficking is devastating Georgia families and putting our kids at risk," Sen. Ossoff said. "We brought Republicans and Democrats together to crack down on fentanyl trafficking and protect Georgia families."

Sen. Ossoff continues working to prevent fentanyl trafficking and help Georgia's communities fight opioid addiction.

Last December, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisan Overcoming Prevalent Inadequacies in Overdose Information Data Sets Act (OPIODS) of 2025 to help reduce the constraints law enforcement and laboratories across the nation face when collecting integral data on emerging opioid variants.

Last August, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock delivered $900,000 in Federal funding through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support efforts across Georgia to fight the opioid crisis.

In December 2024, Sen. Ossoff passed into law his bipartisan Detection Equipment and Technology Evaluation to Counter the Threat of (DETECT) Fentanyl and Xylazine Act to require the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate to research and develop technologies that better detect drug trafficking across the southern border.

Also in 2024, Sen. Ossoff delivered $2.25 million in Federal funding to rural health centers through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to help those struggling with substance use disorder.

In 2023, Sen. Ossoff delivered $7 million to the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) to strengthen Georgia's response to the opioid epidemic and save lives.

In 2022, Sen. Ossoff passed into law his bipartisan Rural Opioid Abuse Prevention Act to help rural communities experiencing high rates of opioid overdoses respond to the crisis.
