On March 3, 2026, SIIA joined dozens of national trade associations in a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer expressing strong support for extending the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) during its 2026 review. The coalition emphasized the agreement's central role in strengthening U.S. competitiveness, supporting export growth, and reinforcing integrated North American supply chains built on long-term investment and regulatory certainty.
The letter urges structured and ongoing engagement with U.S. business, manufacturing, and agricultural stakeholders throughout the review process and calls for maintaining duty-free treatment for USMCA-compliant goods. The coalition cautions that material changes to rules of origin or the imposition of new tariffs could disrupt supply chains, increase consumer costs, and undermine North American competitiveness, and instead advocates for renewing the agreement for a full 16-year term.
