Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Department of Theater and Dance premiered their production of Tennessee Williams' classic play "The Glass Menagerie," directed by Tress Kurzym, MFA, on Wednesday, March 18. The production brings audiences into the fragile, bittersweet world of the Wingfield family as memory, longing and hope shape their lives.
Known for its poetic storytelling and emotional depth, "The Glass Menagerie" remains one of the most celebrated works of modern American theater.
"Having the opportunity to finally direct The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams has been incredibly meaningful. It's timeless. His use of poetic imagery and language as a tool to explore the dysfunction of family through memory continues to resonate no matter when or where it is produced," said Kurzym, Area Head for Theater Education. "However, being able to bring this story to life here, so close to the place that inspired much of its creation has made it extra special."
She added, "What has made it truly unforgettable, though, is the remarkable group of student actors and creatives who have showcased their talents and dedication on this production. They are incredibly inspiring and have made the entire process, from the research and analysis of the text to the design and staging of the production, a true joy."
