The City of Encinitas earned an A+ for accountability and transparency in the San Diego County Taxpayers Association's 2026 Municipal Report Card, receiving 21 out of 22 possible points-the highest total score among cities in San Diego County. The recognition reflects the City's commitment to responsible financial management, accountability, and transparency.
The report evaluates municipalities on fiscal health, accountability, and transparency, providing residents with an independent assessment of local government financial practices. To ensure fair comparisons, the Association groups cities by population and evaluates financial measures against averages for similarly sized municipalities. These measures include pension costs, net pension liabilities per capita, bonded debt, debt service, personnel costs, and staffing levels.
The recognition builds on Encinitas' longstanding commitment to financial accountability. Earlier this year, the City announced that it had received the Government Finance Officers Association's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 32nd consecutive year.
The City's Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget also reported a balanced budget, fully funded policy-directed reserves, and a AAA credit rating from Standard & Poor's.
These accomplishments reflect the City's ongoing commitment to transparent financial reporting, responsible stewardship of public funds and long-term financial sustainability.
