July 22, 2025

Today, U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon met with Howard University President Ben Vinson III, Ph.D., on campus to discuss the Trump Administration's support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The visit follows President Trump's April Executive Order to Promote Excellence and Innovation at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

"As a patron ex-officio member of Howard University's Board of Trustees, I was honored to have visited campus today and to have met with education leaders who are building an innovation hub right here in our nation's capital," said U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon. "President Trump is committed to supporting America's HBCUs, and as the flagship HBCU, Howard is an example of how institutions serve as engines of opportunity for local employers and industries across the country."

"Thank you to Secretary McMahon for visiting our campus and discussing the Administration's focus on supporting Howard and the community of historically Black colleges and Universities (HBCUs)," said Ben Vinson III, Ph.D., President of Howard University. "Since 1867, Howard has long stood at the forefront of academic excellence and social impact, and we look forward to working together to advance innovation, expand opportunity, and strengthen our role as a driver of progress for our students, our community, and the nation."
