Stevenson University has received a $256,000 gift from Trustee Jennifer Ward Reynolds and her husband, George K. Reynolds III. Their gift will fund scholarships for Stevenson students from Harford County enrolled in the Leadership Scholars, Service Scholars, and Honors programs. Previous gifts from the Reynolds have included establishing the Jennifer and George Reynolds Endowed Scholarship in Business; funding gap scholarships; providing support for capital projects; and contributing to both the Stevenson Fund and the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Scholars Program for Middle-Income Students.
"George and I believe in the power of higher education to transform lives and strengthen communities," Reynolds said. "Stevenson prepares students to not only succeed in their careers, but to help solve the challenges facing the world today. We are proud to support that work and invest in the next generation of leaders."
Jennifer Reynolds has been serving her current term on Stevenson's Board of Trustees since 2018. A partner and director at Ward Properties, she has more than 30 years of asset management experience and previously served as vice chair and chief investment officer at the Legg Mason Trust. A graduate of Dickinson College, she served as the college's Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2008 to 2017 and has served as Chair Emerita since 2017. Deeply involved in volunteer leadership at educational, nonprofit, and cultural organizations, Reynolds was previously a member of the President's Advisory Council at Notre Dame of Maryland University. Twice named one of Maryland's Top 100 Women by The Daily Record, she currently serves as Vice Chair of the National Aquarium's Board of Directors and previously served on the boards of the Walters Art Museum, Sheppard Pratt Hospital, and the Baltimore School for the Arts.
George Reynolds is a retired attorney with Miles & Stockbridge, where he focused on estate planning and administration. With many years of legal experience in Maryland, his work has included education law, tax law, and elder law. He is a past Maryland State Chair of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and has served on several nonprofit boards, including the Walters Art Museum, the Howard County Conservancy, and the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation.
"Jennifer and George have an abiding commitment to the transformative power of education," said Elliot Hirshman, Ph.D., President of Stevenson University. "Their extraordinary gift will create new opportunities for our students to pursue academic excellence, develop their leadership skills, and make meaningful contributions to their communities. We thank Jennifer and George for their generosity and vision to create this new scholarship opportunity." Founded in 1947, Stevenson University today serves more than 3,700 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The University offers a traditional undergraduate experience on its 200-acre campus in Owings Mills, Maryland; graduate and professional degrees through Stevenson University Online; and the Psy.D. program in Clinical Psychology.
