University of Warwick joins the QS Responsible AI Consortium

The University of Warwick has joined the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Responsible AI Consortium - a partnership of 11 world-leading higher education institutions - to reimagine how AI can support responsible learning, research, and practice.

The Responsible AI Consortium provides a shared platform to advance AI capability and explore responsible innovation through:

  • AI capability assessments
  • project-based learning
  • collaborative research
  • an AI sandbox piloting emerging technologies in real-world environments.

Warwick will take an active and strategic role across the Consortium, joining the Strategic Board, Programme Board, and Operations Group.

Professor Michael Scott, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), University of Warwick, said: "Partnering with QS and working across the sector is the best way to ensure that we develop responsible, ethical AI that will help shape a future where every student, researcher, and organisation can thrive.

"By creating connections, Warwick can go further with AI - helping to deliver the world-class teaching that our students deserve, the outstanding research that our academics expect, and the breakthroughs that our society needs. We look forward to working with QS and partner institutions in this forward-thinking and sector-shaping initiative."

Building on the Consortium's existing focus on 'Intentionality of AI' and 'AI, Lifelong Learning and Executive Education', Warwick plans to support QS activity through the creation and leadership of a working and discovery group on AI literacy for learning, teaching, and assessment.

The plans would include a lab that would operate as a hands-on, experimental space, focused on defining core AI fluency competencies for students, educators, and institutional leaders. It would also pilot practical frameworks, toolkits, and resources to support responsible and effective AI use across learning, teaching, and assessment.

Warwick will also take part in the QS Responsible AI Consortium's Experiential Project, offering up to 100 Warwick students each year the opportunity to complete a digital international internship with global organisations on AI-focused projects.

Supported by Warwick mentors and international partners, these internships will begin rolling out from summer 2026 - opening new pathways for students to collaborate, build confidence, and develop future-ready skills.

Guided by Warwick's new AI Steering Group, the University will ensure this work reaches across disciplines and departments. The steering group will also link Consortium insights with our National Centre for Research Culture to strengthen responsible and innovative practice in research environments.

Nunzio Quacquarelli, President, QS, said: "As artificial intelligence continues to transform how we learn, teach, and work, collaboration, shared knowledge and operational foresight are more important than ever. By joining the Responsible AI Consortium, the University of Warwick strengthens our shared mission to equip institutions with the frameworks, skills, and confidence needed to integrate AI ethically and effectively, ensuring they remain agile, innovative, and globally competitive in a rapidly evolving world."

Warwick's membership of the QS Responsible AI Consortium signals a clear commitment: to champion responsible, human-centred AI, and to help shape an ambitious, globally connected future for education.

Throughout the year, Warwick will contribute to Responsible AI Consortium panels, discussions and events - bringing our perspective, our energy and our curious mindset to a global community that shares our belief in challenging convention to create a better world.
