The Veterans Alliance of Raritan Valley, in collaboration with the City of New Brunswick and the Borough of Highland Park, will host the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25. The patriotic event kicks off with a solemn memorial service at 11 a.m. at Monument Square.
The important event serves as a time to honor courageous U.S. military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation.
The invocation will be from Brother Adam Neri of St. Peter the Apostle University & Community Parish, followed by the Presentation of Colors as well as New Brunswick High School's JROTC, marching band and chorus.
Remarks will be provided by Rep. Frank Pallone, Assemblyman Joe Danielsen, Assemblyman Kevin Egan, Mayor Jim Cahill and Highland Park Mayor Elsie Foster.
Following the service, the parade will march from Monument Square down George Street, continue onto Albany Street, and cross the Albany Street Bridge into Highland Park. There, a second memorial service will be held at the iconic Doughboy Statue, located at Woodbridge and Raritan avenues.
This year's Grand Marshal is a New Brunswick native, Command Sgt. Major Ava L. Washington, US Army (Retired).
