Congressman Evans Statement on DOJ Suing Denver and Colorado

Today Congressman Gabe Evans issued the following statement on the Trump Administration's Department of Justice suing Denver and Colorado for standing in the way of strong federal immigration policies.

"I have been screaming from the rooftops that Colorado's sanctuary state laws are crippling local law enforcement and making families feel unsafe. It's imperative Republicans push back on Colorado's sanctuary laws that make our state the third most dangerous in the nation, create a safe haven for criminals and drug traffickers, all while putting families in harm's way. I applaud this effort to hold sanctuary policies accountable," said Congressman Evans.

The Trump Administration specifically cites Colorado state legislation HB19-1124, SB21-131, and HB23-1100 as the reason for the lawsuit, which are the same sanctuary state laws Congressman Evans called out in a letter to Governor Polis and are specifically targeted by Evans' UPLIFT Act. Evans recently put the screws to Denver Mayor Mike Johnston about Colorado's weak immigration policies that have led to a safe haven for violent immigrants, such as Tren de Aragua choosing Denver as their headquarters.

Americans support strong immigration policies, and Congressman Evans has been steadfast in calling for the take down of violent immigrant gangs and pushing back on the crimes and drugs they bring to Colorado.
