ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA - On Tuesday night, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) joined a town hall about trade and tariffs at the United Steelworkers (USW) headquarters. At the event, he spoke with union members, retirees, and Pennsylvanians about the need for an American trade policy that puts workers and communities ahead of an unending lust for profit at any cost. Public Citizen hosted the town hall as part of their Global Trade Watch division.
Alongside USW International Vice President Amber Miller, former U.S. Trade Ambassador Katherine Tai, and labor economist Dr. Thea Lee, Congressman Deluzio spoke with Pennsylvanian workers who have felt decades of unfair trade policies that deindustralized America, shipped jobs overseas, and hollowed out factory towns.
"For too long, politicians in Washington and the White House have prioritized trade policies that put corporate interests first and hardworking Americans last. People are working their butts off, but they still can't get their slice of the American Dream," said Congressman Deluzio. "It's time for a change. We need to reindustrialize America and rework America's trade and industrial policies to put workers at the heart of it. I'm glad to have joined this conversation today, and I'll keep fighting for this vision down in Washington."
Last week, Congressman Deluzio spoke at a press conference in Washington, D.C. introducing the new Fair Trade for Working Families Resolution. He is a longtime fighter for an American workers-first trade policy, and authored a New York Times Op-Ed on the topic in March 2025.
