DIA Backs Opus Health, AI-Powered Platform Unlocking Pre-Tax Dollars at the Point of Care

DIA, a venture capital fund at the forefront of investing in the over $1 trillion multi-site healthcare industry with a special focus on dental solutions, announces a strategic investment in Opus Health Solutions ("Opus"). Opus is building an AI-powered platform for healthcare payments and benefits optimization, helping patients discover and deploy tax-advantaged HSA/FSA funds at the point of care. The investment expands DIA's portfolio of innovative practice management and payments solutions, addressing a structural gap that leaves billions of pre-tax healthcare dollars unused each year while providers struggle with case acceptance and collections.

Opus tackles a costly, two-sided failure in healthcare payments. On the patient side, tax-advantaged benefit dollars routinely go unused: in 2023 alone, roughly half of FSA account holders forfeited an estimated $4.5 billion, an average of $422 per account, even as approximately 50% of U.S. workers now sit on high-deductible health plans. On the provider side, out-of-pocket "sticker shock" at checkout drives lost case acceptance and collections shortfalls. With more than 39 million HSA accounts holding nearly $147 billion in assets, and $556 billion in annual U.S. out-of-pocket healthcare spend, the opportunity to close this gap is enormous and largely untapped.

Opus turns confusing benefits into a single, transparent interface. Its platform surfaces available balances and HSA/FSA eligibility at checkout, routes eligible payments efficiently over lower-cost rails to optimize out-of-pocket payments, and automates the documentation, including letters of medical necessity, that typically blocks eligible spending. Its AI-powered Benefits Discovery Agent locates forgotten accounts across custodians and, in one early case, surfaced a $20,000 HSA account for a single patient. Where legacy tools simply tell patients to "use your HSA card," Opus actively discovers accounts, connects them to the payment flow, and automates the administrative layer that prevents utilization, driving higher case acceptance for providers and lower out-of-pocket costs for patients. Opus is launching dental as its beachhead market, with a roadmap to expand across cash-pay specialty verticals.

"Every day, patients walk away from care they could afford, and practices lose revenue they've already earned, simply because the benefits system is too complicated to navigate at checkout. Opus fixes that," says Doug Brown, Managing Partner of DIA. "They've built the infrastructure to unlock pre-tax dollars already sitting in patients' accounts, turning a moment of payment friction into higher case acceptance for providers and real savings for patients. This is exactly the kind of infrastructure-level innovation that creates lasting value across dental and the broader multi-site healthcare industry."

"The money to pay for care often already exists, yet it's trapped in benefit accounts patients don't understand or lack visibility into. We started Opus to change that by making pre-tax benefits as simple to use as any other form of payment, so patients can apply it to the care that they need," says Carolina Rojas, CEO and Co-Founder of Opus Health. "DIA brings something we couldn't find anywhere else: deep operational relationships across dental practices and DSOs, and a genuine understanding of how these organizations adopt new technology. That partnership will help us get into practices faster and prove out our value for patients and providers alike."

"Carolina and her team pair rare fluency in fintech and healthcare with the technical depth to build real payment infrastructure, not just another point solution," says Kentucky Morrow, Partner at DIA. "Opus sits at the intersection of two problems everyone in healthcare feels, but no one has solved well: patients leaving pre-tax dollars on the table, and providers losing revenue at the point of payment. I'm thrilled to partner with the Opus team as they build the financial rails that dental and cash-pay healthcare have been missing."
