13 Haitian nationals convicted in Magistrate's Court


New Providence - Thirteen (13) Haitian nationals appeared before Senior Magistrate Anishka Isaacs, February 17, 2026 in Magistrate's Court No. 8. Of the group, eleven were convicted of Overstaying, and two were convicted of Illegal Landing. All individuals pleaded guilty.

The group received fines and sentences ranging from $300.00 to $3,000.00, and from three months to one and a half years at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS). All individuals were ordered to be handed over to the Department of Immigration upon payment of fines or completion of their sentences for deportation.

The Department of Immigration reminds all visitors that it is an offence to remain in The Bahamas beyond the period permitted. Individuals may be subject to arrest, prosecution, and deportation. The Department remains committed to upholding the laws of The Bahamas and encourages members of the public to report immigration violations by contacting the hotline at 242-604- 0249 or 242-604-0171/2.
