We may be a little late to the party but earlier this year one of our DHU nurses received a very special award.
Julie A'Lee is one of our Clinical Service Leads in the Leicestershire area and was awarded a Certificate of Commendation at the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Nursing Practice Awards.
Julie has been with DHU for five years, managing three of our GP practices, serving communities of more than 24,000 people. Her award was presented following a number of innovative schemes looking at preventing illness and helping to develop her teams, allowing them to grow with us at DHU.
Nana Tamuno, Head of Primary Care at DHU, nominated Julie for the award, saying: "Julie has made significant contributions across Bowling Green Street Surgery, Heron GP Practice, and Thurmaston Health Centre. She works with patients, operational leads, medical and nursing colleagues, and wider system partners to improve health outcomes and raise standards of care for patients. Her leadership, innovation, and dedication have set new benchmarks across our practices, strengthened nursing development, and enhanced the overall patient experience.
"She has helped address health inequalities within communities. For example, when she recognised low vaccination rates for childhood vaccines, she designed personalised welcome cards for new parents outlining key vaccination milestones, as well as one and three year birthday cards for children with essential vaccination information. This significantly increased attendance so she introduced a similar scheme to increase take up of our cervical screening programme.
"It's that dedication to other people's needs, including staff development, safeguarding and patient safety, and putting other people first that sets Julie apart. She is an exceptional Nurse, an exceptional person and fully deserving of this award."
