Washburn University Football lines up for annual spring game

Topeka, Kan. - Ichabod fans can get their first look at the 2026 Washburn University Football team at the annual Spring Game on Friday, April 10. The community is invited to this free event that will serve as a wrap up of the squad's offseason training.

The game begins at 6 p.m. in Yager Stadium, with Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) officials working the whistles. The scrimmage creates a full game-day experience with activities before and during the contest.

"This is an opportunity for our players to showcase the work they have put in this offseason," said Zach Watkins, head coach, Washburn University Football. "I hope students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters will join us for this free, family-friendly event and get behind Ichabod football."

Prior to the game, folks are encouraged to tailgate in the areas north and east of the stadium. Members of the Washburn University Marching Band alongside Washburn Cheer and Mr. Ichabod will help to provide a traditional game day atmosphere. Organizers hope a Friday in the spring will capture the spirit of a Saturday in the fall.

"Last year, we breathed new life into this event and received incredible support from Ichabod fans as well as the broader community. We are looking to build on that excitement as we gear up for the 2026 season," said Watkins.
