On Thursday, February 12, Centennial City Council voted to appoint Steve Carmine as the District 2 Council Member, filling the vacant seat on Council.

Council Member Carmine was sworn in during the February 12 Council meeting and will serve the remainder of the term, which expires January 2028.

"We appreciate the willingness of residents to step forward to serve. Steve brings valuable experience, a strong commitment to community and a collaborative approach that will support Centennial's continued success," said Centennial Mayor Christine Sweetland.

Carmine is a 27-year Centennial resident who has previously served on the City's Senior Commission and currently serves on the City's Budget Committee. Through these roles, he has gained experience in municipal operations, financial planning and community engagement.

Carmine brings more than 40 years of professional experience working with large, mid-sized and small organizations, along with experience working with cities and counties across the western United States. He also served seven years on his neighborhood board, supporting collaborative decision-making and community-focused outcomes.

Carmine has expressed a strong interest in supporting the City's long-term financial sustainability, attracting and retaining businesses and supporting housing affordability to help maintain a vibrant and diverse community. He is known for his collaborative, research-driven approach and commitment to thoughtful, team-based decision-making.

Centennial's District 2 seat became vacant when Mayor Christine Sweetland vacated the seat upon being sworn in as Mayor in January 2026. City Council voted to fill the vacancy through an appointment process open to District 2 residents.

A total of 11 District 2 residents submitted applications for the vacancy. Following a review of the applications, City Council selected finalists to advance to formal interviews. Interviews were conducted during a Special City Council meeting on February 12, which concluded with the appointment of Carmine.
