Vamos Al Parque! celebrates Santa Monica’s 150th anniversary with culture, music and dance in Palisades Park

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2025) - To close out Hispanic Heritage Month, and as part of Santa Monica's 150th anniversary celebration, Vamos Al Parque! (Let's Go to the Park), will take place at Palisades Park on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free, family-friendly event will highlight Indigenous and Latine heritage through performances, hands-on workshops and cultural activities.

Attendees can enjoy lounging areas, all-ages artmaking, an Aztec dance performance, Native music, craft vendors, fresh fruit bowls and more!

Special guest Mayor Lana Negrete will call rounds of lotería in a segment called Lotería con Lana. Prizes to include gift certificates to Latine-owned local businesses.

Other featured artists and contributors include:

  • Grupo Folklórico de West Los Angeles - Showcasing traditional Mexican dance, music and culture.
  • LA VACAcicleta - Presenting an all-day cyanotype workshop, a free seed library, zines, prints and more.
  • Lazaro Arvizu, Native musician - Offering music and storytelling rooted in the traditions of the Gabrielino people.
  • Yayala Ceramics - Blending Indigenous Oaxacan earthenware traditions with contemporary artistry.
  • Cheyenne Green, city of Santa Monica Camera Obscura Art Lab artist in residence - Leading a hands-on workshop with natural materials inspired by Indigenous heritage.
  • Maribel Reveles (aka Patchouli Nomad) - Bringing color, culture, and upcycled art to the community.

Vamos al Parque! is one of many free, community-driven events happening throughout the city in honor of Santa Monica's 150th anniversary. See the full calendar of 150th anniversary events here.

Residents, artists, nonprofits, and neighborhood groups are invited to host their own public events celebrating Santa Monica's 150th anniversary. Applications for microgrants of $500-$5,000 are now open through Nov. 10 for individuals and community groups interested in hosting their own public anniversary events.
