Phoenix, Ariz. - The Arizona Corporation Commission is pleased to inform Southwest Gas customers in Arizona that they can expect to see a reduction in next month's natural gas bill. Southwest Gas provided notice to the Commission that it is decreasing its Monthly Gas Cost (MSG) rate due to lower commodity costs. The MGC rate is adjusted every month to reflect the 12-month rolling average of purchased natural gas costs for Arizona customers. Southwest Gas' MGC rate will decrease from $0.37836 per therm to $0.36934 per therm effective January 1, 2026.
This is the second time in about a year that Southwest Gas lowered its rates. In September 2024, the Commission approved a monthly bill credit of approximately $1.87 for the average Southwest Gas residential customer after adjusting its Gas Cost Balancing Account (GCBA) rate. Additionally, the La Nina winter pattern this year, so far, has produced warmer-than-average temperatures for Arizona, which further helps to keep natural gas prices lower.
Arizonans that use natural gas to heat their homes typically experience higher bills during the winter. On average, Southwest Gas residential customers pay around $67.00 on their monthly winter bills.
