On 27 November 2025, Digitec Galaxus informed the FDPIC that it had implemented his formal recommendation that customers be given the option to object to the processing of their personal data for marketing purposes. Following criticism over excessive data processing, users can now disable personalisation with one click (one-click opt-out).
The FDPIC concluded his investigation under the previous law in April 2024 and issued formal recommendations. During the year under review, the FDPIC monitored how Digitec Galaxus was implementing the recommendation, accepted by the company, that customers be given the option to object to the use of their personal data for marketing purposes. The FDPIC had concluded that linking the ordering process to the creation of a customer account, and the resulting data processing, violated the principle of proportionality.
Digitec Galaxus has since introduced new settings in the customer account allowing users to enable and disable the collection and use of behavioural data for personalisation purposes. As a result, users can now disable website personalisation altogether with a single click, whereby the corresponding cookies are automatically disabled. The registration form now explicitly mentions personalisation and the right to object, and the privacy policy has been updated accordingly. The Digitec Galaxus community and all interested parties have been informed about the new control options. In its online magazine dated 9 December 2025, Digitec Galaxus explains the new settings available in the customer profile.
The FDPIC welcomes the action taken and the resulting improvement in transparency and has closed the case.
