On January 9, 2025, State Police of Brunswick arrested George W. Gorman, 55, of Valley Falls, NY, for Grand Larceny in the fourth degree and Scheme to Defraud in the first degree.
On August 20, 2024, at about 9:47 a.m. State Police received information about a possible theft of donations meant for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society which is a non-profit organization. The investigation determined Gorman had allegedly collected numerous cash and check donations on behalf of the organization throughout 2024 and reportedly deposited those donations into multiple personal bank accounts belonging to himself. Gorman failed to forward all of those funds to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, resulting in the theft of more than $1,000 from the organization. Gorman has reportedly been a fundraising participant for approximately 20 years. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been cooperative with the investigation
Gorman was arrested and processed at SP Brunswick. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Schaghticoke Town Court on January 20, 2024, and released.
The State Police urge community members who wish to donate to charitable organizations to send their contributions directly to the organization to avoid the risk of misdirected funds
