Dig In This Fall: Planting and Mulching Tips for a Healthy Garden

Fall in the PNW means cooler days, shorter nights, and more time spent indoors with warm drinks and cozy blankets. But don't put away your garden tools just yet, fall is one of the busiest seasons in the garden.

Fall is the perfect time to plant! Cooler air reduces heat stress, seasonal rains keep plants watered, and warm soil encourages strong root growth, giving your plants a head start for next year.

Mulching is another key fall task. It protects soil from compaction, erosion, and runoff while adding a finished look to your beds. Choose from wood chips in various colors and sizes at your local soil provider, or save money by using fallen leaves or straw.

Pressure Reducing Valve Rebate

High water pressure (more than 80 psi) is necessary in some parts of our water distribution system. As high pressure helps firefighting efforts, it can lead to wasted water and may damage some home appliances, faucets, hoses and other water fixtures. Installing a Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) can reduce the strain on plumbing fixtures and increase their service life. It can also save you money on your water bill.

If you live in a high-pressure zone, the City offers a $250 rebate for the installation of a PRV. For more information on water pressure, to view our water pressure map or to download the rebate application, follow the link below.
