Statement by the Permanent Representative of Belarus L.Belskaya at the 61st Session of the UN Human Rights Council (March 11, 2026, Geneva)

Belarus is committed to the key objectives of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action - the most critical instruments in the field of gender equality - as a comprehensive agenda for the empowerment of women.

The assessment of progress in fulfilling the Beijing commitments has confirmed that the substantial contribution of women is a key factor in sustainable progress and the harmonious development of society.

Drawing on long-standing traditions and significant achievements in this field, Belarus pursues a systemic policy to expand opportunities and strengthen the role of women in the life of the country.

The effectiveness of this policy is reflected in Belarus's 27th place in the 2025 Gender Inequality Index, as well as its high positions - within the top 30 - in global rankings for education, health, employment, and women's participation in decision-making.

The President of the Republic of Belarus has declared 2026 as the Year of the Belarusian Woman. This decision reflects the state's support for women's initiatives and its recognition of the vital role women play in politics, the economy, the social sphere, the family, and the upbringing of children.

This initiative is aimed at expanding opportunities for women's leadership, professional and social self-realization, as well as strengthening Belarus's international commitments in the field of gender equality.
