The new Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso to the United Nations, Saïdou Zongo, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

A career diplomat with more than two decades of experience in multilateral diplomacy and international negotiations, Ambassador Zongo has held several senior positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso. Prior to his appointment to the United Nations, he served as Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Burkina Faso to the Gabonese Republic.
His previous assignments include Deputy Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso in Vienna and Director-General for Multilateral Relations. He has also served at the Permanent Mission of Burkina Faso to the United Nations in New York, including during Burkina Faso's tenure on the United Nations Security Council.
Ambassador Zongo has been actively involved in regional and international negotiations relating to peace, security and cooperation in the Sahel.
Married and the father of three children, he holds a "Diplôme d'Études Approfondies (DEA)" in public economics from the University of Abidjan-Cocody.
