Governor Phil Scott Appoints John Morley to State Senate

Montpelier, Vt. - Governor Phil Scott today announced his appointment of John Morley to fill the vacant Orleans District Senate seat. Morley replaces Sam Douglass, who resigned in October.

"John is a lifelong Vermonter with strong ties to the Northeast Kingdom, as well as experience in the Legislature," said Governor Phil Scott. "He's worked in municipal government for over three decades, and I believe he will represent his constituents well in Montpelier. I also want to acknowledge how difficult this choice was, with three strong, capable, and effective state representatives from the Kingdom sent by the County Committee for my consideration. All three are invaluable leaders in the House, in important roles at a critical time during the biennium. I look forward to continuing to work with them on our shared priorities."

"I am honored that Governor Scott appointed me to serve out this term," said Morley. "I look forward to working with legislators and the administration to improve the lives of my constituents as well as all Vermonters."

Morley grew up in, and resides in, Orleans County with his wife, Jodi. He has worked for the Village of Orleans for 33 years, managing an electric department, street department, water and wastewater department, fire department, and library. Morley is an active member of the community, serving on many boards, in addition to having served in the Vermont House of Representatives for six years from 2004 until 2010.

Morley's appointment is effective December 5.
