7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2026: Cuesta Water Main Incident
"Boil Water" Notice Remains in Effect for 21 Homes
One of the water samples collected on May 11 from the Drucilla Drive pipe reconnections between Montalto Drive and Leona Lane has tested positive for coliform bacteria. This means that the "Boil Water" notice will remain in effect for the 21 homes in the Drucilla Drive/Carla Court area (shown on the map in red). The City is in contact with the State Water Board regarding options moving forward and next steps. The City remains committed to restoring safe drinking water as quickly as possible.
The City will continue to provide hotel rooms, meal and incidentals per diem payments, and access to shower facilities for the residents of these homes through the morning of Monday, May 18. More information on showers and hotel accommodation is below.
Updated Dates and Times for Temporary Shower Access
The City will continue to provide temporary shower access to residents who remain impacted by the water main incident. The shower facilities are located at the Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center and El Camino YMCA. Their hours are listed below:

The City is providing temporary lodging with several hotels through Monday, May 18. They include:
Alternatively, the City will reimburse impacted residents up to $192+tax/night if they choose to use a different hotel of their choice.

About the Water Main Incident
Currently, 21 homes, located north of Cuesta Park, remain under boil water restrictions until further notice.
The water main breach involved a private contractor that was hired by the City. The Friday, April 24, incident concerned a contamination breach with some cement slurry mix coming into contact with a live water main near the intersection of Bonita Avenue and Cuesta Drive.
