Prom ReRun is a community-driven program that promotes sustainability and affordability by offering free donation and pickup opportunities for gently used formal apparel. By keeping quality clothing in circulation and out of landfills, the program helps reduce textile waste while ensuring Johnson County high school students can attend prom and other formal events.
As part of Prom ReRun, there will be six separate locations where residents can drop off items during the first two weeks of March. A pickup event where the collected items are available for free will be held on March 14, 2026.
Community members are invited to donate gently used:
Items must be clean and in good condition (no rips, stains, pet hair, food residue, or damage).
Not accepted: jewelry, accessories, purses/bags, and cosmetics or makeup.
Johnson County high school students and community members are invited to select donated items at no cost during the Prom ReRun pickup event:
Where: Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center Social Hall, 220 S. Gilbert St., Iowa City
When: Saturday, March 14, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Items are available first come, first serve, while supplies last. Each guest is limited to picking up one full outfit. No private dressing rooms will be available. Guests are welcome to try items on over their clothes.
