Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will welcome the summer season with a free Summer Kickoff Concert featuring popular '80s cover band, Radio Royalty. Attendees can dance and sing along to the energetic sounds of '80s and contemporary dance hits while enjoying an evening under the along the waterfront. The Summer Kickoff Concert will take place on Friday, May 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Conductor Larry Curtis Concert Park at Marine Stadium (5255 E. Paoli Way).
"We can't wait to kick off another incredible summer of free, family-friendly entertainment for our community," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "Our Summer Kickoff Concert is an annual tradition that is all about embracing the long summer nights and creating meaningful connections and joyful memories with family and friends."
Beginning at 5 p.m., complimentary activities including face painting and a bounce house will be available for kids to enjoy leading up to the concert. Concert goers are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic dinners to enjoy during the performance. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure ample time for parking and making their way to the concert area.
"The Summer Kickoff Concert in Marine Stadium is an exciting way to start another beautiful summer in Long Beach," said Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan. "We invite people to come out and enjoy an evening of live music and good times."
In addition to the Summer Kickoff Concert, PRM will also host a variety of other free, family-friendly events and programming throughout the summer season, including Movies in the Park, the 117th season of the Long Beach Municipal Band, and ensembles at the El Dorado Nature Center, among other opportunities.
"We are proud to once again offer spaces and programs that bring our community together this summer, giving residents and families opportunities to connect, play and make lasting memories," said Director of Parks, Recreation and Marine Stephen P. Scott.
