Welcome home: Get ready for move-in at Purdue Fort Wayne

A new academic year is almost here, and we cannot wait to welcome our Mastodons to campus! Whether you are moving into student housing for the first time or returning for another year, move-in marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

Campus has been busy throughout the summer. New spaces and experiences are taking shape, teams across the university have been preparing for students' return, and a full calendar of activities is waiting. From reconnecting with friends and meeting new classmates to exploring campus and becoming involved, there will be plenty of opportunities to have fun, build community, and create memories this semester.

Before all of that begins, however, there are boxes to pack, cars to load, and rooms to organize. A little preparation can make move-in day much quicker and easier. Our executive director of student housing and dining has shared several recommendations to help you arrive ready.

Two of the most important items should stay with you-not packed at the bottom of a box. First, bring your PFW ID, which you will use to access your building. You should also have your move-in QR code ready when you arrive. The code is available through the Housing Portal and was also sent by email. Consider saving it somewhere on your phone where you can find it quickly.

When packing your room essentials, remember that student housing uses full-size mattresses. Be sure to bring properly sized sheets, blankets, pillows, and any other bedding that will help make your new space comfortable and feel like home.

You will also want to pack toiletries and cleaning supplies. Having those essentials ready from the start will make it easier to settle in and keep your room and shared spaces clean throughout the semester.

Finally, label your boxes according to where they belong-such as the kitchen, bedroom, or living room. Clear labels will help you stay organized, unload more efficiently, and save time when you begin unpacking. Instead of opening every box to find one item, you will know exactly where everything belongs.

Move-in day may feel busy, but it is also one of the most exciting days of the year. It is the moment when campus begins to come alive again with students, families, new friendships, and the anticipation of everything the semester will bring.

Once the boxes are unpacked and your room begins to feel like home, take some time to explore, meet your neighbors, and learn more about the activities planned for the start of the semester. There will be many ways to connect, get involved, show your Mastodon pride, and make Purdue Fort Wayne your home away from home.
