City Of Las Vegas To Celebrate New Aquatics Center
New Center Includes Second Olympic-Sized Pool At Pavilion Center Pool Complex
City of Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley and Ward 2 Councilwoman Kara Kelley will celebrate the completion of a new Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Pavilion Center Pool Complex, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive.
The celebration will include tours of the new facility, starting at 10 a.m., and a special first dive into the pool by members of the Southern Nevada Sandpipers. The new pool will officially open for swimming Monday, June 29.
The $18.9 million project includes the new pool, a pool equipment building, classroom, restrooms and lifeguard breakroom. The new pool will host local, regional, state, national and international swim meets and provide more opportunities for local swim teams to practice and compete. It will allow the city to add more programming, including exercise classes, kayaking and more.
The project is funded through a $1 million donation from the Southern Nevada Sandpipers Swimming Booster Club, a nearly $9 million grant through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act and city general funds. The Korte Company was the contractor and the city of Las Vegas Public Works department managed the project.
The new pool joins the existing indoor pool at the complex, creating a swimming complex that is unique in the city of Las Vegas. For more information on swim offerings in the city, visit https://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/aquatics.
