WASHINGTON - United Bank recently named Eric Morales as East regional president. In this role, Morales will direct and oversee the day-to-day banking activities, client relationships, and business developments of the six markets within United's East Region. This includes the Bank's Washington, D.C.; Arlington/Alexandria; Fairfax East; Fairfax West; Prince William County/Fredericksburg; and Maryland markets.
"Having spent much of my career working alongside our teams and customers across Greater Washington, I've seen firsthand the strength of the relationships we've built and the opportunities ahead," said Morales. "I'm excited to build on that momentum and continue growing United's presence across the region while staying focused on the local relationships that have always been central to how we serve our customers."
Morales has spent more than 11 years with United Bank, joining the company as a portfolio manager and advancing through several commercial banking roles before moving into market leadership. Over the past five years, he has served as market president across four markets in the Bank's Greater Washington franchise, experience that directly supports his expanded leadership of the East Region. Most recently, he was tapped to lead the newly formed Maryland Market, which combined United's Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Suburban Maryland markets.
Earlier in his career, Morales gained experience in accounting and financial management, including work in EY's assurance and audit practice serving banking and publicly traded real estate investment trust clients.
Morales earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is active in the local community through United's financial literacy programs and has volunteered with Junior Achievement Finance Park. He has also served on several local boards, including the Catholic Business Network of Montgomery County and the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, and was formerly an Executive Fellow with The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. His leadership and community involvement have been recognized with accolades such as the 2024 Washington Business Journal 40 Under 40 awards. A Montgomery County, Maryland native, Morales currently resides in Bethesda with his wife and daughter.
"The East Region has long been an important part of United's business, with distinct markets and significant opportunities for continued growth," said United Bank Chief Banking Officer Henry Kayes. "Throughout his career at United, Eric has consistently stepped up to take on new challenges and greater leadership responsibilities, building a deeper understanding of our business, our customers, and the communities we serve. His ability to bring people together, build strong relationships, and drive growth makes him well positioned to lead the region into its next chapter."
United has served Greater Washington for more than 35 years, entering the market in 1990. Today, the Bank ranks sixth in deposit market share in the Washington, D.C., MSA, with approximately $11 billion in deposits. United's East Region includes more than 60 locations and approximately 600 employees and is home to United Bank's headquarters in Vienna, Virginia. The Bank's holding company, United Bankshares, Inc. (UBSI), is also dual headquartered in Washington, D.C., and Charleston, West Virginia.
