Erie County Announces the Opening of a New Green Space at the Mental Health Association; New Rear Entrance to Enhance Safety and Access

Erie, PA - The County Executive and the Department of Human Services will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community open house to announce the official opening of a newly developed green space located at the Mental Health Association (MHA) in downtown Erie. The project includes relocating the main entrance of the MHA Drop- In Center from the high-traffic front area to the new, safer rear access point-offering both improved accessibility and a more welcoming, tranquil environment for program participants and community members.

This initiative reflects the County's ongoing commitment to supporting mental health services while fostering a safe, inclusive, and vibrant downtown.

"The Mental Health Association (MHA) is of critical importance to our community because it provides necessary services to those who need it the most in the area they are located. MHA provides mental health support services to approximately 100 people each day. This is an important part of my 'Streets to Sustainability' program designed to help people with various challenges get the help they need to improve their quality of life," said County Executive Davis.

The MHA Drop-In Center provides vital daily support to individuals living with mental health challenges, including many who reside in the downtown area. The center offers a safe haven-connecting people to services, peer support, and community while reducing isolation. With this improvement, the MHA continues to serve as a model of compassionate care and practical support.

The project was developed in collaboration with downtown neighbors, community leaders, and County officials, recognizing the shared goal of maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all downtown residents, workers, and visitors.
