University of Charleston Named a College of Distinction for Sixth Consecutive Year

The University of Charleston has once again been recognized for its commitment to student success, earning designation as a College of Distinction for the 2026-2027 academic year. This marks the sixth consecutive year UC has received the honor.

Colleges of Distinction recognizes institutions that excel in providing a well-rounded undergraduate experience through engaged students, great teaching, vibrant campus communities, and successful outcomes. The organization conducts in-depth research and interviews with institutions to identify colleges that place students at the center of everything they do.

"This recognition reinforces what we already know, that UC offers an education that truly transforms lives," UC President Marty Roth said. "We are proud to provide a learning environment where students do not just earn a degree, they discover their purpose and prepare to make a difference. This recognition reflects our continued focus on providing a student-centered education that prepares graduates to lead, serve, and succeed in their careers."

In addition to its overall designation, the University of Charleston earned multiple specialized honors, reinforcing its strength across disciplines and its commitment to student success:

West Virginia College of Distinction: Highlights a demonstration of leadership in the state

Business College of Distinction: Recognizing rigorous academics, applied learning, and ethical grounding in its programs

Education College of Distinction: Citing an undergraduate teacher program that excels across eight critical areas.

Nursing School of Distinction: Acknowledging excellence in undergraduate nursing education across nine key benchmarks, including stability, faculty excellence, accreditation, practical experience, high mastery rates, dedicated advising and counseling, liberal arts exposure, high impact practices, and industry connections.

Affordable College of Distinction: A designation based on an in-depth analysis of true student cost, support for low-income families, and post-graduate outcomes - not sticker price alone.
