Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores | April 17, 2026 | Press Release
Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs María Teresa Mercado traveled to France and the Czech Republic from April 13-16 to deepen political dialogue and advance economic, trade, educational, and cultural cooperation.
In France, Undersecretary Mercado co-chaired with Martin Briens, Secretary-General of the French Foreign Ministry, a meeting for political consultations in which both sides reviewed the bilateral and regional agenda and welcomed the upcoming launch of the Franco-Mexican Joint Action Plan, marking a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries following the meeting between President Claudia Sheinbaum and President Emmanuel Macron in November 2025.
Undersecretary Mercado also met with Presidential Adviser for Asia, Oceania, and the Americas Julie Le Saos and with Philippe Gautier, Director-General of MEDEF International, France's leading employers' federation. She visited the exhibition on Mexican codices, "AMOXTLI," at the Mexican Cultural Institute in France, and attended the inaugural ceremony of Aeromexico's Monterrey-Paris route, which will strengthen air connectivity between the two countries.
In the Czech Republic, Undersecretary Mercado co-chaired the tenth meeting for political consultations with her Czech counterpart, Jiří Brodský, reaffirming both sides' interest in strengthening bilateral ties.
She also discussed ways to increase economic and trade exchanges and investment with Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade David Müller and Chamber of Commerce Vice-President Radek Jakubský.
In addition, she signed a memorandum with CARE Czech Republic in support of Mexican women residing in that country, and met with prominent members of the Mexican community, including participants in the Global MX Network, as well as Mexican students at the Anglo-American University in Prague.
The visit reaffirms the strength of Mexico's relations with France and the Czech Republic, and the commitment to advancing projects of mutual interest that deepen political, economic, and cultural cooperation for the benefit of both societies.
