President Trump's Executive Order on preemption of state-based artificial intelligence laws is an admirable and meaningful step toward reducing regulatory uncertainty for AI innovators-an effort that will advance American AI leadership and strengthen our critical infrastructure. The current patchwork of state-level requirements for AI compliance creates a chilling effect on investment and innovation. This is particularly true in the heavily regulated healthcare industry, where the absence of a comprehensive national privacy law has already created untenable complexity for providers.
Regulatory certainty for developers and investors is critical, but it is only half the equation. AI cannot deliver transformative value in healthcare unless providers and patients are confident that these tools are safe and reliable, which requires transparency around how AI is developed and deployed.
We further applaud President Trump for urging Congress to deliver a draft national AI governance framework in the coming months. While preventing the state patchwork is a positive step, implementing a single rule book is necessary to spur innovation, provide the clarity needed for responsible AI adoption, and ensure the United States maintains its role as a global AI leader.
Premier will continue leveraging our deep expertise in technology governance and contracting to help providers navigate this complexity and ensure AI fulfills its promise: delivering better care at lower costs for America's patients.
