One Week Remains in Second Lady's Summer Reading Challenge

Submit completed logs by September 4!

WASHINGTON, DC- The Institute of Museum and Library Services proudly supports Second Lady Usha Vance's nationwide Summer Reading Challenge. The annual challenge encourages kindergarten through eighth-grade students to continue their intellectual and personal development throughout the summer by reading at least twelve books.

To participate, students and their parents should visit www.whitehouse.gov/read/ to learn more about the challenge and download their reading log. Successful participants can submit their completed logs through the submission form by September 4th to receive a personalized certificate, a letter from the Second Lady, an America 250-themed bookmark produced in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, and entrance into a raffle to visit the White House.

In addition to the standard prizes, students who have submitted their reading log and reflection will be able to select an additional reward from an online prize shop featuring:

  • A ticket to the Crayola Experience in Florida or Pennsylvania
  • Scouting America Summer Reading Challenge patches and mini Scout Life magazines
  • A Dairy Queen gift card
  • A book selection from 24 Scholastic Books
  • A Walmart gift card
  • A ticket to the National Children's Museum in Washington, D.C.
  • Crayola markers
  • A Wendy's Frosty coupon
  • Freedom 250 patches and stickers
  • NASA patches and stickers
