Maryland Halts Implementation of New Land Record Fee

In response to concerns from credit unions and other stakeholders, the Maryland State Archives has paused the rollout of a new fee for accessing land records.

The MD|DC Credit Union Association engaged with both the Archives and the Administration, emphasizing that the proposed 20 cents per-page fee for viewing or downloading land records would substantially increase costs for credit union members purchasing or refinancing property in Maryland.

"We appreciate the Administration's willingness to listen to our concerns," said John Bratsakis, President/CEO, MD|DC Credit Union Association. "We look forward to continuing to discuss options that won't place an added burden on Marylanders working to achieve homeownership."

State officials have agreed to work collaboratively with stakeholders to explore alternative funding sources for the Archives.
