East-central Georgia winter weather update

I-20 at Exit 195/Wheeler Rd. (8 a.m. Sunday)

Augusta, Ga. - The Georgia Department of Transportation is continuing to monitor and treat routes in east-central Georgia. As of 8 a.m. Sunday, state routes on the western side of District 2 (west of State Route 15) are passable and drying, however, hazardous and icy conditions remain on the eastern side of the district.

Georgia DOT crews are continuing to treat routes east of SR 15. Additional crews from the western side of our district have moved to the Augusta area to treat routes. Crews are continuing to plow and salt routes. We are also using a calcium brine mixture, which serves as a deicer, in some locations.

Drivers are advised to continue avoiding non-essential travel throughout the day on Sunday. Icy conditions are likely in several locations.

Crews continue to be staffed around the clock. All district maintenance personnel are working 12-hour shifts until the threat is over.
